It’s killer out there – Snowmass is running the elk gondola for some sick downhill runs. The weather has been great, the trails are amazing and the exercise is awesome. If you don’t have your own bike, didn’t bring it, or would like to try something else out for a change go visit one of the snowmass ski shops where you would typically get your snowmass ski rentals, this time of year they are renting bikes instead of skis. They all have great options and can get you set up with maps, recommendations, etc. See you out there.

Snowmass Chili and Brew fest

That wonderful time of year again – summer in Snowmass. I guess if you cant have snow and can’t be hanging out swapping powder stories at the local snowmass ski rental shops then you might as well be enjoying beautiful weather, good music, good beer and chili. This Friday and Saturday kicks off the summer season with the Chili Pepper and Brew Fest which features Chili cook offs, beer tastings and music by Brett Dennen, The Wailers, and George Clinton and P-Funk. Wow! The beauty of it is that tickets are super cheap and even if you don’t want to spend the cash you can still grab some brews and hang out in the mall at a local snowmass ski shop and enjoy the music. Summer from Snowmass ski shops

Supposedly summer is on the way, that’s what the calendars say. Although if you ask anyone in Snowmass they will tell you that winter is still trying to hang on. I’m sure the sun will be out in full force, hopefully, the summer concerts will be a bit chilly if not. Most of the summer concerts are going to be visible and audible from everyone’s favorite haunts, the snowmass ski shops, which is great. You can still check out what they might be trying to get rid of from last season and may get a preview of next years upcoming snowmass ski rentals. Either way, sun, music and the thought of next years season means a good time.

Snow! Don’t Count Winter Out Yet.

Starting last night, and with the possibility of accumulating over a foot during the next 3 days, the snowfall is leaving the visitors and locals in Snowmass ski shops optimistic. Combined with warmer than desired temperatures and the overall lack of snowfall this year, this snow has felt wet and thick, but will be leaving the groomers pretty fast once its all packed down. Ask employees in your favorite ski shop snowmass what more to use to keep dry, warm and comfortable on a day like today. Lets hope it keeps falling hard and fast.

Big Sales in Aspen/Snowmass

It’s nearing that time of year when the thrifty already start planning for next years shred season. You’ll see signs in almost every ski shop Snowmass, CO window advertising huge discounts on this years equipment, gear and clothing. Certain Snowmass ski rentals will even start presenting the opportunity to demo certain brands’ boards and skis such as Burton, Capita and others. All you need is a credit card and ID as collateral. So get out there and find what suits you best!

Snowmass Rocks Freeride Championships!

Yesterday was the crowning of all those daredevil, supremely talented freeriders in skiing and snowboarding. Aspen ski shops helped suit up those preparing to be the next generation of athletes whose idea of “skiing” involves back-flips, bombing runs through meter wide gaps and gullies, monster cliff drops and the occasional boulder or two. These athletes show us what Snowmass skiing/snowboarding really has to offer, and risking serious pain for the largest cash prize of only $1,900. The competition was held last weekend on the steep, treacherous Hanging Valley Headwall and Burnside Cliffs here in Snowmass. We’re so lucky. Great competition to witness. Congratulations riders!

Great Weekend on the Slopes

February came and went leaving feet of powder for Aspen Snowmass skiing, and this past weekend left Snowmass ski rentals very busy. Warm temperatures and hopes for snow are leaving us hopeful for an even better March! With the March Madness Tournament making all the bars in Aspen/Snowmass that much more fun, there will be a whole lot to look forward to on the mountains.

It’s back! This is the weather pattern the local snowmass ski shops have been looking for. A couple days of snow, dropping a foot or more and then a couple days of bluebird sun. I know I am a huge fan. You can see the smile on everyones face as they line up to get their snowmass ski rentals. Everything is skiing really nice right now and the period of warm helps to settle the snow pack and make for a strong base as well as sure up the backcountry.

Weather Alert – 12-18 inches in Snowmass, Aspen and Vail areas

Just saw it on the news, 12-18 inches in the high-country. That’s us! If you haven’t checked out this years snowmass ski rentals and your local snowmass ski shop to check out what you want to ski on this year. That being said, if you have new skis that you are super excited to get out on this year, I wouldn’t do it after this storm or for the first couple weeks of the season. Early season dumpings of snow can lead to horrible ski damage, you can’t see all the bad stuff below and the snow hasn’t settled enough to create that nice base layer that protects you throughout the winter. Either way a bunch of snow is going to be sweet!

Leagalize it!

Lots of chatter about it a the couple snowmass ski shops, the many new marajuana dispensories in the area. Pot has been legalized for use with certain chronic diseases and injuries. There are three or four dispensories in this valley, all in a stretch of about 20 miles. How many people need to suffer from chronic diseases, where pot is an effective treatment, to warrant four different spots to buy legally. Really, are they price shopping? How do these guys differentiate themselves, offering better pipes? Seems a little ridiculous. I’ve never really understood why all these people want pot to be legalized. Once it is legalized it essentially becomes governmentaly controlled. Which means it will be taxed, it will be monitored on how much you can grow or sell. You will need a business licenses and state sales tax license to sell a joint to your buddy. Also once it is legal police forces will have a bigger budget to spend on patrol the legal use of it.
