Let than a month, about 3 weeks left before we get to make official in resort turns. After a week of snow it has really gotten the town excited. The buzz in the snowmass ski shops is incredible and gaining every day. Now there are still some who aren’t ready to give up fall and the sun. I’m ready, ive been checking out what they have for snowmass ski rentals that are new to see if there is anything I might want to try out. This week is supposed to be nice and then some more snow is moving into the area. Can’t wait!

This past weekend was the AVSC Ski Swap in the parking lot of Bank of Colorado in El Jebel. There was everything imaginable there for ski and snowboard equipment. It got me really amped to get out and ski, in fact with so many good deals does it makes sense to buy something there or should I continue to look at snowmass ski rental equipment? It’s always nice to look in the snowmass ski shops to get an idea of what is out there and possibly take it out for test run, but the amount I want to ski I better just buy.

Snowmass snow!

October 12, 2009

Snowmass has held snow in some spots all summer, but you could never tell where those spots are right now – the upper part of the mountain is covered in snow – it’s awesome! Aspen Mountain and Highlands bowl are completely covered as well. Sweet! Anyone keeping the official countdown for the start of the season, I can’t handle the math right now but the mountain is scheduled to open the 26th of november, Thanksgiving day. There will be snow so get your skis tuned up, what no skis! Then get in to one of the many snowmass ski shops and get some new stuff.

So it has been snowing up in Snowmass, which is sweet. I am looking forward to trying out some new skis from one of the many local snowmass ski shops. That way not only can I try the new stuff, I also don’t have to worry about hurting my equipment in the early season coverage. Just make sure that when you get your snowmass ski rentals that you get the damage waiver. Now I’m not saying that you should go right out there and look for every bare spot or rock and hit it. In fact ski as if these ski rentals were your own, it’s a karma thing. If you go out and treat the rentals with indifference you will surely bust yours up mid season.

Snowmass Ballon Festival

September 12, 2009

Ever wanted to see what Aspen and Snowmass look like from several thousand feet up? Next weekend is the annual Snowmass Balloon Festival where there will be tons of giant balloons, cool jazz, culinary delights and over 80 wineries showcasing their wines. What more could you ask for? They are looking for volunteers if you’d like to help out. This is the 34th annual Snowmass Balloon Festival and is kind of a unofficial kick-off to fall and then to winter! It will be here before we know it and soon we’ll all be gathered outside the snowmass ski shops waiting to get out stuff to take some fresh turns. Can’t wait!

JAS a big success!

September 9, 2009

Jazz Aspen Snowmass was a big success! Some are saying it wasn’t as successful as others they have had but it used to be 5 days instead of the 3 this year. No wonder attendance was down. Acts included Michael Franti, Citizen Cope, Black Eyed Peas, Allman Brothers and Drive By Truckers, plus a few others. The weather was great, the atmosphere was incredible, and the performances were amazing. Everyone I saw was having a great time and that is all that matters. For the Saturday shows we rented bikes at our local spot for Snowmass ski rentals and rode up to the ridge facing the stage, what an incredible view.

Chalk it up at Snowmass

August 19, 2009

Ever wanted to go back to being a kid and writing on the sidewalks with chalk but figured people might look at you funny? Well now there is a contest on the 29th in Snowmass Village and at the base village where it is perfectly acceptable. From 9am to 2pm artists will construct their sidewalk art and everyone can vote on their favorites. Draw anything, well within realms of decency, whether its the mountain, your favorite shop to get snowmass ski rentals or your favorite meal.

Right now you can rent bikes at local snowmass ski shops for cheap. Well they aren’t cheap cheap, but you can get discounts up to 20%. You probably still won’t be riding like the pros and the shops will probably ask that you don’t abuse the bike like they do, but hey, get the damage waiver and go for it. That is what most people seem to do when they go and get snowmass ski rentals, get the damage waiver and ski whatever, including the condo roads, pretty ridiculous. I guess I just can’t imagine disrespecting something I don’t own like that, but whatever, I’m not the typical Aspen or Snowmass guest!

This weekend, Blast the Mass at snowmass! Want to see a bunch of crazy people on bikes tear down a mountain at reckless speed? Come to Snowmass this weekend starting the 7th through the 9th. There will be all age and classes, all nuts! Starting and finishing at the base village you will be able to check out a good majority of the races. Stake out in a snowmass ski shop and catch it! Make sure to take note of the single speed division, thats right a category for extra crazy people who think biking up a big mountain with only one gear is a good idea. Really?

Snowmass to expand!

July 28, 2009

Ski Co is toying with the idea of expanding snowmass – not the actual size of the mountain, but the ammenities and services on the current skiable terrain.  They are looking into building up the Elk Meadows area.  Not just for winter either, they are looking at adding more bike trails to bring in the summer and off-season guests.  They are looking into more restaurants, snowmass ski shops, with ski rentals and other great services.  As Snowmass is on Federal forest land they will need permission.  Some want to see more expansion in the Sams Knob area.  Ski Co is still talking about it, action will not be for a little bit.
