The local station in Aspen Snowmass, grass roots tv, had a guest on it’s program the other night who left the studio looking like a pig sty.  No it wasn’t Nick Nolte, it was a bear.  Apparently someone left the door unlatched or not locked and the bear decided to check out what was going on.  Authorities believe he is making a new movie to be shown in the shortfest that happens in Aspen, they also believe that it probably wouldn’t be that bad compared to some of those movies.  It is said that he will be filming an action part up on Snowmass Mtn this winter using snowmass ski rentals.

If you’ve got little kids you know how tempermental they can be, that is why most places have added a bit of kidfriendlyness, if they deal with kids often.  Waiting rooms have toys and books and building blocks, fast food restaurants have happy meals and toys your can chose from.  They have playgrounds with ball-pits and slides.  That is why it is strange to me that one of the worst places for a kid to be is waiting in line for snowmass ski rentals, not just in snowmass but at any mountain.  There is nothing for the kids to do but wait in line with their parents, all bundled up in their ski gear, sweating and getting cranky quickly.  I have heard of a new service that is so kid friendly – ski rental delivery, everything is brought right to your condo or hotel room – as far as the kids are concerened they can continue doing whatever they are doing.  What a great idea!

Snowmass newest lodging!

July 15, 2009

Snowmass Mountain’s first luxury hotel will open it’s door this up-coming season!  173 new rooms will be available for your enjoyment.  Situated at the bottom of Fanny Hill, right next to the ski school and other new base village shops you couldn’t find a better spot for a hotel.  The upper rooms will have a spectacular view of the mountain as well as the surrounding areas.  You are also minutes away from snowmass ski shops, although I have a feeling the rooms are going to be so nice you won’t want to leave except to ski, if that is the case you may want to look into ski rental delivery.

When was the last time you were up in Snowmass?  Probably cruised through the “mall,” checking out the local snowmass ski shops and other stores, passing by the occasional restaurant.  Well, the new base village is here and open for business.  This past ski season was the first for the new shops at the base of Fanny Hill, there are several new restaurants, some gift shops and bars with tons of outdoor seating.  What could be better – oh, there is a restaurant devoted entirely to sweets!  The Sweet Life offers everything dessert/sweet oriented.  Unusual to think of ice cream in the winter, not at the base of snowmass, sitting in the bright sun after a great day on the hill.  If you haven’t checked it out, make sure to do so.

The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) leads free nature hikes and walks up aspen and snowmass mountains.  Learn about the wild flowers, birds and sub-alpine environments from an ACES Naturalist.  Those trails that you may think are “bunny slopes” in the winter will take the wind right out of you when you climb up.  From June 24 through Sept 7 stop by the snowmass ticket pavillion to sign up for these free tours – running wed – sunday 10am and 1pm.  What a great way to spend an afternoon.  It will give you a whole new perspective on the mountain, no need to wait for snowmass ski rentals, all you’ll need is your shoes!

Beautiful sun, gorgeous views, good people and plenty to do!  That is Snowmass in the summer.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Snowmass in the winter, stopping in at my favorite Snowmass Ski Shop, grabbing some free coffee and heading out for some powder, it doesn’t get much better.  But when there is no snow on the slopes we might as well make good use of our time until next winter.  There is plenty going on right now – free concerts, good restaurants at the new base village – with Happy Hours, my favorite, and just people milling around everywhere.  There is some snow higher up, so if you have ambition and a need to hike for several hours for 75 feet of skiing, have fun!  I’ll be at Zanes enjoying $.35 wings!

Dirty Snow!

June 4, 2009

If you look up at the remaining snow on Snowmass Resort, or the surrounding peaks you’ll notice that up to about 10,000 feet the snow has a nice layer of red dirt.  Now from a skiing standpoint “who cares” the season is over, not like you’re trying to get Snowmass Ski Rentals!  The issue with it lies in the fact that the dirt particles are trapping heat from the sun and causing the snow to melt quicker, which is going to make a huge impact in a month or so when the snow has completely melted and the streams and rivers are not running so nicely.  This will have a big impact on many communities and hopefully people will become even a little conscience about their water usage – maybe not run their sprinklers in the middle of the day!  “You do know that it is just simply evaporating and not doing any good to your yard.”  Also it’s time to recognize that we live in a high-desert, not everything is supposed to be green!

Great Deals!!

March 5, 2009

It’s that time of year when the resorts get with the lodging companies and come up with crazy good deals to get people to come stay and play. Right now, Snowmass is promoting a great deal where you get 4 days of skiing and 4 nights at the hotel starting at $250 per person. That’s a great deal because you can’t even get lift tickets for that! So start getting your Snowmass Ski Rentals together and book your trip to Colorado today!!

It is as though the Rossignol Phantom 74 was designed with Colorado rocky mountain skiing in mind. With a flex that is stiff enough for carving groomers yet forgiving enough for the bumps. A width of 74 mm makes it a fun skiing in all conditions. The ski is so good across the board that it is becoming a fixture of Snowmass Ski Shop and one of the most rented skis from Snowmass Ski Rental shops that carry them. I highly recommend you give the Phantom 74s a try next time you hit up your favorite Snowmass Ski Shop to rent or demo some new skis.

Snowmass Big Air Friday

February 12, 2009

Just one more reason to come to Aspen and Snowmass for vacation! Every Friday afternoon starting at 3 PM on Fanny Hill in Snowmass, they hold the Big Air Friday’s competitions. Local Colorado skiers and snowboarders test their abilities on one huge jump! It is quite the scene! Along with the tricks a band plays, there are crowd give-aways and just an all around good time and atmosphere. Stick around until 7 every Friday for fireworks as well. One piece of advice, just watch the big air. Grab your skis from a local Snowmass Ski Shop and enjoy the festivities.
